The day kicks off with an alarm on your smartphone. You brush your teeth with your smart toothbrush and check the weather on your phone with your other hand. There’s a message unopened on Whatsapp, it’s a request to make a smart payment for yesterday’s dinner.
There’s supposed to be a package delivery in the morning which you can check online, and you just remembered you need to message daycare that the kids are coming a bit later.
Recognizable?
Our average day starts with so many digital actions that we can barely count them on both hands. But did you know that there are millions of people out there that would be completely lost if you told them how your average morning went?
We assume everyone is up-to-date with their digital affinity and skillset, but in reality, even a few gap years or a job that doesn’t require a lot of digital knowledge can easily set people back. It takes dozens of hours of practice before we reach a level we can take care of all of our stuff digitally.
❌Talent is wasted, both because of the gap and being inaccessible through digital applications.
❌ People are unable to reach support organisations, for example for allowances and healthcare.
❌ Young and old are manipulated and even robbed through methods like phishing and spoofing (criminals acting like they represent some organisation).
So what can we do to help ourselves and others?
✅ Stay up-to-date by reading tech updates, and you know that header “What’s New?” when an app updates? Take some time to read it!
✅Is something taking a LOT of time? No need to re-invent the wheel, Google your problem – pretty sure there’s been someone that thought there must be a more convenient way for this.
✅ By offering our support and knowledge consistently, not taking for granted “everyone knows”
✅ Actionizing step by step. Can you think of someone in your inner circle that could use a few tips?
